Listen before the pitch
The city beyond
the usual recommendations.
Santa Cruz After Dark follows the real places behind The Lost Boys, revealing the city’s reinventions, film history, and enduring local myths. The first edition is built and available to explore today.
The City Changes
55 seconds · original narration · headphones welcome
A useful addition to a stay
Send the invitation.
Let the story do the work.
Guests can listen in their room, sample a chapter before arrival, or explore the locations. There is no scheduled departure, app download, or account to create.
Already have maps, a concierge guide, or audio routes? Start by comparing the storytelling. This edition can sit alongside the guest tools you already use.
Built to reach people you already welcome
Three natural moments to introduce it.
“Get to know your Santa Cruz.”
Add a short invitation to the guest email you already send.
“Looking for something local?”
Give staff a QR card and a simple introduction they can use in one sentence.
“There’s a story right here.”
Let guests explore independently, with no appointment to coordinate.
A clear scope. A complete handoff.
Your edition.
Your accounts.
Your choice of who helps next.
We agree on the audience, launch materials, and ownership arrangement before quoting the project. You receive a working edition you can operate, edit, and move.
The project fee is paid once. Your organization pays ordinary hosting and domain costs directly. Further development is optional at $250 an hour, or you can work with anyone.
Download the two-page buyer brief ↓- 01The eight existing narrated chapters, with photographs, transcripts, and source notes
- 02A branded welcome page and agreed arrival instructions for one property
- 03A guest email, a printable QR card, and a short front-desk introduction
- 04The complete editable website, deployed in accounts your organization controls
- 05One consolidated revision round and one operating handoff session
- 06A final field, listening, and media-rights pass before guest launch
A hotel edition includes continuing, nonexclusive use of the shared stories and its own editable deployment. It does not transfer the Santa Cruz After Dark brand, main domain, or exclusive citywide rights. Acquisition of the complete destination project is a separate discussion.
The practical questions
Know what you’re buying.
What can we try right now?
The existing eight-chapter experience, its narration, photographs, transcripts, location assistance, and offline-save controls. The final route walk-through and phone listening checks remain part of the work before a buyer’s guest launch.
Can our destination organization buy the whole project?
Yes, we can discuss acquisition of the Santa Cruz-specific project, brand, domain, and transferable assets. The asset schedule, existing licenses, responsibilities, and price would be agreed separately. The creator retains general production methods and reusable tools.
Does this require nighttime walking?
No. Guests can listen from anywhere and explore in daylight. The storytelling has an evening atmosphere; route access, current conditions, and guest judgment determine when to walk. The source film is rated R, and the material is recommended for ages 13 and older.
What happens after handoff?
A 30-day warranty covers reproducible defects present at accepted handoff. New stories, redesigns, integrations, additional properties, and future changes are separately scoped. Your organization selects the person who maintains its edition.
Is this an official film or Boardwalk experience?
No. It is independent, with original narration and credited place photography. No studio sponsorship or relationship with route businesses is implied. Third-party images keep their original licenses and attribution requirements.
Start with a short conversation
Who would you put
this in front of?
Tell me about your property or organization, the guests you serve, and how you would introduce the experience. I’ll recommend a scope and send a fixed project proposal.
I’m Jason La Barbera, a Santa Cruz-based product builder. I build place experiences that local organizations can own and develop.
